Guidebook on Technologies for Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation
Over the past several decades,
natural disasters have affected people across the globe and have, in several
instances, resulted in heavy loss of lives, property and livelihoods.
Communities, especially those in disaster-prone areas need to be prepared to
face the adverse impacts caused by natural disasters. After a disaster,
communities often require immediate support to help them recover and re-build
their lives. Experience has shown that carefully chosen technologies can greatly
assist communities to face the challenges of natural disasters as well as
mitigate their effects. The capacity of a nation to access and adopt suitable
technologies for disaster preparedness and mitigation plays an important role in
ensuring its sustainable development. To help the various stakeholders involved
in disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts, APCTT has prepared this
guidebook which is a compilation of information on technologies that have
potential applications in disaster preparedness and mitigation. This guidebook
could be of interest to organizations involved in disaster mitigation and
management as well as to various disaster management practitioners and
volunteers who are involved in disaster management related activities across the
globe.
